Six Sebring students were selected to represent our district for a special Honors Choir event. The event is organized by OMEA District V for choir students from Mahoning, Trumbull, and Ashtabula County. Students were selected by Mr. Engstrom to participate in a special choir performance with over 100 students at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.
The students selected to represent Sebring were Alexis Stillion (12th grade), Sophia Clark (12th grade), Brittney Nagy (11th grade), Landon Nolan (8th grade), Violet Sheen (7th grade), and Stella Smith (7th grade).

The Ecology Club once again collected money to purchase turkeys for the Junior High Student Senate Thanksgiving baskets. Thank you to all the kids who participated and a big thank you to the community for donating! We are proud to be part of such an incredible community!

McKinley High School's Ecology Club is kicking off the season of giving early this year with their annual "Trick-or-Treat for Turkeys" campaign.
The student group created decorative jugs to canvas the Sebring community on October 25. The "Trick-or-Treating for Turkeys" event generates donations to purchase turkeys for community baskets distributed to Sebring families in need during the holiday season.

Our Trojans (big and small) got to experience the great outdoors last week at Canaan Acres Christian Camp, proving that sometimes the best classroom isn't a classroom at all!
B.L. students had a few days of valuable outdoor education, testing their limits, challenging themselves, and exploring new interests. McKinley Trojans joined in on the fun in the role of counselors, guiding our young Trojans through fun crafts, fishing, hiking, and teamwork exercises. Take a look at the fun:

Each week we will spotlight our kindergarten students as they start their Trojan journey!

Our district was proud to host The Imagine Literacy Community Event last week. The event is a fun evening that brings community partners together to support pre-K through third-grade students and their families. The evening featured activity stations for literacy, safety education, and community resources.
We were so happy to see so many of our Trojan families enjoying the event. Community partners included Akron Children’s Hospital, the Public Library of Youngstown & the Mahoning Valley, the United Way of Youngstown & The Mahoning Valley (including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library), and Western Reserve Elementary School.
The collaboration of our Trojan teachers, families, and community organizations to support the well-being of our students is unmatched! Students had the opportunity to take home plenty of books and giveaways, while families participated in drawings for special prizes, including a Dolly Parton basket, a Family Game Night Literacy Basket, and smoke detectors to promote home safety.
Special thanks to our school staff, families, and community partners for making this event one of literacy fun, family engagement, and safety education!

Last week we shared a highlight from McKinley's Social Emotional Learning Curriculum (SEL). This week we are highlighting a component of B.L. Miller's SEL curriculum as we continue our mission to make well-rounded, successful, and kind Trojans!
B.L. students recently signed a kindness pledge after learning how actions and words can impact their fellow Trojans. Students signed the pledge signifying their promise to make an effort to "Be Kind and Stick Together"! The banner is displayed near the main office as a reminder of their promise.

B.L. Miller Elementary School students took home books for free thanks to a partnership between The Carl & Josie Scarpitti Foundation and Scholastic Books. The foundation provided a $20 credit to all pre-K through sixth-grade students to spend on new books at the school’s Scholastic Book Fair.
The funds for each student to purchase books were donated in memory of Suzanne Scarpitti, the eldest child of Carl & Josie, who passed away in April and would have turned 80 on October 26.
The foundation also provided funds to line basketball courts at B.L. Students have been enjoying their new basketball courts all year!
We are grateful for the books the foundation put in the hands of our little Trojans and for the fun their support has provided with our basketball courts! Thank you, Scarpitti Foundation!

Our district recognizes the crucial role social-emotional learning plays in our Trojans' success. Throughout the year, we implement curriculum that teaches our students how to connect with each other, make positive choices, and help the community around them. A well-supported Trojan is a successful Trojan!
One example of our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum is a program called "Start with Hello". This program encourages meaningful and respectful connections between students. Pictured, is one of the "Start with Hello" activities. Students created a post-it display with positive messages to take for themselves or give to a fellow Trojan. We hope to keep the conversation going all year long!

Mrs. Mathias’ Success and Wellness students have been hard at work this year on the Trojan Pantry. The pantry has expanded its offerings thanks to the incredible support of The Second Harvest Food Bank, The United Way, and our community. Along with pantry item staples, after-school snacks have been added to the shelves. Mrs. Mathias’ students keep track of the pantry’s inventory, place orders, stock shelves, and deliver food items to classrooms. We are proud of our Trojans for giving back to their school community.

Things are getting spooky (and pretty!) in middle school art! Ms. Luca's students are working on creating sugar skulls just in time for spooky season. Students are using a variety of materials and color combinations to create their skulls. Check it out!

Today we want to give a Sebring Shout-Out to junior high student, Jackson Phillips, who won our "Stay in the Game!" attendance contest. "Stay in the Game!" is a program in partnership with The Cleveland Browns to encourage student attendance throughout the school year.
Jackson's perfect attendance was drawn from a pool of 74 students who also had perfect attendance from Labor Day until September 18th. Jackson won four tickets to the Browns opening day victory and team swag!
Jackson attended the Cleveland Browns game against the Carolina Panthers with parents, Chris Phillips and Samantha Phillips, Jackson and classmate Zayne Sayre.

Our team of custodians work tirelessly to create a clean and safe environment for our Trojan staff and students to thrive. We thank our custodial team for their daily efforts in our district.
