Wednesday, April 12, 7:00 p.m. - A parent presentation in the Sebring McKinley Auditorium on the topic of Sextortion/Internet Safety presented by Alicia Kozakiewicz; motivational speaker, advocate, internet safety expert, survivor, and founder of the Alicia Project. Through personal testimony, she shares her story of internet grooming, abduction, and captivity at the hands of an internet predator. 

Alicia’s interactive presentation educates and empowers students to make responsible and safe choices online and off. Alicia discusses how to safely use computers, mobile devices, social media, gaming systems, and apps. She covers topics such as online predators, grooming, sexual assault, cyberbullying, and human-trafficking. Alicia has the unique ability to address these sensitive subjects in an informative, inspirational, and occasionally humorous manner.

Tuesday, April 4, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - “Night at the Arts” at B.L. Miller Elementary. Students will be performing musical selections as well as having their artwork on display. Students in grades K-2 will perform beginning at 6:30 p.m. and students in grades 3-5 will perform beginning at 7:00 p.m. Come out and support these wonderful students and all of their hard work!

Wednesday, April 5 - Our annual kick-off for St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon fundraiser begins. Permission slips and math activity books will be sent home with students. The first 50 participants who turn in their permission slips (gold paper) will be given a special treat.

All Math-a-Thon donations are due on Friday, April 21st. All checks need to be made payable to St. Jude Research Hospital. Donations can be mailed to B.L. Miller Elementary 506 W. Virginia Avenue Sebring, Ohio 44672, attention to Jeana D’Ostroph.

PROM TICKETS

Prom will be Saturday, May 6. Tickets go on sale April 17th. The last day to purchase is Thursday, April 27th.

Each ticket is $45 and includes dinner and dancing. When you buy your ticket, you sign up for your table, so please plan with your group! See Mrs. Carolyn Hollback or Mrs. Nicole Mathias with any questions.

Here is what the Language Club will be doing:

  • Guess the Gummi Bears- Whoever guesses closest without going over, wins the container of gummi bears! You get two FREE guesses.
  • Crossword Puzzle- Pick up a free crossword puzzle at any lunch and use the labels around the school to complete it! We will pick the winner on Friday from the completed puzzles. The winner gets a liter of pineapple or orange Jarritos soda!  
  • The Name Game- Throughout the week each participating staff member will award a prize coupon to the student that addresses him/her in Spanish at the correct secret time. Teachers give a coupon to that student. Coupons are redeemable for candy bars OR bottles of Jarritos in Señora’s room 104 AFTER SCHOOL.  
  • Special Lunch Treat: Tuesday, March 7: The Language Club will be serving tortilla chips and salsa during all lunches free of charge!

MCKINLEY CLOTHING CLOSET

The Junior High Senate will be opening the McKinley Clothing Closet beginning February 7. The Clothing Closet is exclusively for McKinley Jr./Sr. High School students. Any McKinley student can stop in and browse our selection of gently used clothes during designated days/times and choose up to 4 items at no cost. We’re excited to help make a difference in the lives of our Sebring students! If you would like to donate new or gently used clothes to this, please bring them into the High School office.

Everyone is welcome at this event supporting reading in our schools. Bring a blanket or chair and sit and read a book together. There will be great surprises from the Sebring Public Library, including special guest Booker the Bear, Sebring’s Public Library Mascot. Guests can meet Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse and author Sally Kurjan with Puppy Bernie of the “Bernie the One-Eyed Puppy” Series.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a used book or two from home and participate in a "Book Swap” with other students.  Guests can also drop a new book into the book bin at the event for the students at B.L. Miller Elementary School. 

Food and beverages will be available at the concession stand, with proceeds benefiting B.L. Miller’s P.I.E. (Partners In Education).
