Sebring Students Raise Funds and Collect Items for Holiday Meals

Sebring Students prepare to Trick or Treat for Turkeys

Sebring McKinley students are in the midst of preparing for a holiday food giveaway through their fundraising and food drive campaigns in the fall.

From November 9th through the 19th, the Jr. High Student Senate is collecting nonperishable and household items in its Thanksgiving Food Drive. Items range from popular holiday staples such as stuffing and gravy to much-needed self-care items including shampoo and dental hygiene products.

The Jr. and Sr. High classes are rewarded with points for each item contributed, with the class earning the most items receiving a Chick-fil-a nugget tray after the conclusion of the drive.

The McKinley students don’t stop at staples and non-perishable items. On the Thursday before Halloween, twenty Sebring McKinley students visited houses in Sebring Trick or Treating, and not for candy … but for turkeys!

The students in Sebring’s Ecology Club returned to the streets this year with their Trick or Treat for Turkeys fundraiser. The members brought along special turkey collection buckets for the donations that the community offered as the students visited the houses in town.

With donations collected on their special Trick or Treat for Turkeys night and alumni contributions brought to the school, the group raised $601.23, enough to purchase seven turkeys and 13 hams for the Jr. High Student Senate’s food distribution.

Every year, the McKinley Jr. High Senate, through the support of the Ecology Club and the McKinley Jr./Sr. High staff and students, is able to help make a fulfilling holiday possible for twenty families in the community.
