McKinley Students Provide Food and Supplies for Twenty-One Families

McKinley Food Drive

November 23, 2022

The annual food drive at Sebring McKinley will be blessing 21 local families with food and care items this week.

The packages are loaded with pantry staples, foods for a holiday feast, and general hygiene items that were generously collected by Sebring McKinley students.

Each day for nearly two weeks, McKinley homeroom classes competed with each other to gain points by donating items ranging from cereal to soap for families in the community. The annual Trick-or-Treat for Turkeys campaign, run by the school’s Ecology Club, collected more than $800, providing turkeys and some key staples for the giveaway.

“We’d like to thank the community, students, and teachers for donations,” says Sebring McKinley Student Senate advisor Lynn Chiu.

Through the generous donations from McKinley students, staff, and the community, the group is providing a turkey and all the fixings, including mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, dessert, and canned goods to twenty-one families this year. These families will also receive personal care items and cleaning supplies the students collected.

Students in Mrs. Everhart’s homeroom enjoyed a Chick-fil-A party for accruing the most points throughout the food drive.

Next week, Sebring B.L. Miller Elementary School will begin their annual food drive to provide for local families during the Christmas holiday season.
