B.L. Miller Elementary School's kindergarten class celebrated graduation on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. B.L. Miller Elementary School second-grade classes hosted Night at the Zoo on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Top three fundraisers for the St. Jude's Math-a-thon: Gage Mates, Audrey Eaton, Sophia Clark. Paolo DeMaria, Ohio Department of Education's Superintendent of Public Instruction, observes an interactive read aloud in Mrs. Kandel's class. Mahoning Valley Historical Society visited B.L. Miller for its Suitcase Presentation. B.L. Miller Elementary hosted Family Fun Night, where students experienced STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) activities with loved ones. The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1, and Thing 2 visited B.L. Miller Elementary School to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. These B.L. Miller Elementary 4-6 students won awards for the school's art show on Thursday, February 14, 2019. These B.L. Miller Elementary K-3 students won awards for the school's art show on Thursday, February 14, 2019. B.L. Miller Elementary kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school by creating their own shirts. The elementary girls basketball players were recognized during a high school girls basketball game. Sebring Local School District presented certificates to school board members for School Board Recognition Month. Sebring's Drama Department performed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Michelle Vacca Great job by the B.L. Miller Elementary School spelling bee participants. Jay Zheng was the winner. B.L. Miller Elementary students touring the Ohio Supreme Court. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judith French took the time to meet B.L. Elementary School students on their tour of the Ohio Supreme Court. Justice French is a Sebring alumna. B.L. Miller Elementary second-graders interviewed for jobs at the North Pole. B.L. Miller Elementary hosted "Jingle Mingle" to help families improve kindergarten students' reading skills at home. Mr. Linko was recognized by the Alliance Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Laure's annual Christmas food drive enters its 24th year. WKBN and The Alliance Review stopped by to highlight it. B.L. Miller Elementary School's Annual Veterans Day Program B.L. Miller Elementary's Annual Harvest Party Purple & Gold Day during Spirit Week at B.L. Miller Elementary Sebring Local Schools are 1 to 1 in technology, meaning each student has his/her own Chromebook. Kindergarten students enjoying Spirit Week Smaller class sizes means more personalized instruction for Sebring students. Sebring Local Schools are 1 to 1 in technology, meaning all students have his or her own Chromebook. Twenty four elementary students were rewarded with an afternoon at the park for meeting their summer reading challenge.

Monday, October 15th - Today is when all immunization records and/or immunization exemption forms are due at the school. The school nurse sent a letter to all students in need of one or more immunizations. If you have any questions please contact the nurse.

Kindergarten Visited Whitehouse Farms 2018! Kindergarten Visited Whitehouse Farms 2018!

Despite the rain and mud, Kindergarten had fun on their field trip to White House Fruit Farm.  They learned about all of the types of apples while walking through the orchards.  Kindergarten students also learned about all of the crops grown locally at White House.  
Thanks to Kim Lewis and The Green Team for awarding us a field trip grant. Special thanks to Samantha Phillips and Melinda Vecchio for chaperoning and Mike Kimball for driving our school bus.

Public Notice Meeting on Sept. 13th

The Sebring Local School District will be holding a Public Notice Meeting for
community members to discuss the District’s utilization plan for special education funds.

Student Photograph Release

In recent years, it has become common for school districts to post photographs of students online.  Usually, such photographs can be found on the school districts’ websites.  However, many school districts are expanding their use of such photographs by posting them on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and other social media platforms.  The Sebring Local School District intends to follow suit.  However, because some people may not be comfortable with this new use of photographs, the District is providing all parents and adult students another opportunity to “opt-out” of having their photographs posted online by the District.

Kindergarten Registration - call today!

We are accepting appointments to screen students for our Fall 2018 Kindergarten classes.  Please call (330)938-2025 to schedule your child’s appointment.

Students must be 5 by September 30th of 2018 and live in our school district to be eligible for our Kindergarten Class of 2031!. 

We also have open enrollment for parents wishing to enroll children at BL Miller. If you don’t live within the school district, you may apply for open enrollment by calling for an appointment.  To be eligible for open enrollment, an open enrolled student would need to be 5 years of age by the date set by their home school district.  Open enrolling families would need to register with their home school district first, and then they may apply with us.

Ohio Revised Code 3313.673 states that all first time Kindergartener students must be screened.

Parents will need to bring your child’s birth certificate, immunizations records, social security card, proof of residency, and custody papers (if applicable).

Appointments will take about an hour. Your child’s speech, hearing,and vision will be checked at this appointment.

Open House Special Education Funds Presentation

On Thursday, August 17th, Sebring B.L. Miller Elementary School will be holding an open house at 6:00 P.M. During the open house presentation, community members will be informed of how the Sebring Local School District utilizes federal special education funds. This information will be shared at approximately 6:10 P.M. in the gymnasium. Any community member who would like to receive this information is invited to attend this meeting.

Heimlich Heroes Heimlich Heroes Visited!

Through the cooperative effort of Akron Children's Hospital, we are offering basic Heimlich training for students grades 2-6 were taught this week.

OSU Extension Visits - Nutrition Classes OSU Extension Visits - Nutrition Classes

Students in grades K-5 participated in nutrition classess offered at BL Miller.  Students were taught their nutrition classes by OSU Extension teachers during one of their PE classes per week. Students in Grades 3-5 finished thier 6 week long series with a healthy snack - english muffins with yogurt and fresh fruit. YUM!!!

Veterans Day 2016 Our Veterans' Day was Honorable!

Today BL Miller honored veterans with a choir performance by our 4th & 5th graders. We also started with a parade and read poems.  Every year we watch a video that explains the meaning of our Star Spangled Banner. To close we listened to each miltary branches' theme song. Students them leave in reveranced silence after Taps is played to honor the fallen.

Students in Grades 4-6 had their very first auction!  The kids were able to bid on items with tickets they earned fromthe 1st nineweeks.  Joey Gliatta from Kiko visited with us and auctioned our items for us.  The 6th Grade student sentate and teachersorganized the auction . The Sebring Fire Department visited BL Miller today!  We learned: 1) We need a fire safety plan.  2) We should stop, drop, and roll.  3) Firemen are our friends but they may look scary in their fire gear.

Parent RIMP Picnic!

Tuesday- 9/20/16 -  6:00PM

Parents of students (Grades K-3) who are required to a have a RIMP, to come learn about our plan to help you and your child learn reading.  The RIMP presentation will be held in out gym at 6:00PM.  Teachers will take all students out the playground to play, so that parents can focus on the presentation.  We will then have a picnic dinner together in our cafeteria, hosted by our teachers.

Our School Nurse, Mrs. Tibbs visited Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes to teach them how to properly wash their for better health.

Welcome Back!

The students at BL MIller were ready to come back to school today!  The day was full of smiles, cheers, high fives, and hugs as students transitioned into their new year!  They said they can't wait to come back tomorrow!  (Which is the best compliment ever!)

BL Miller School hours will remian the same 8:10AM-2:35PM. We are announcing changed building hours.  Doors will be open at 8:00AM for non-bus riding students.  AM Recess will  no longer be available. Students may not be left unsupervised before 8:00AM.

Healthy Treats at BL Miller!

Our KGP Reward today was a healthy snack of fresh fruit! KGP stands for Kids Going Places!  This snack was made possible by our Team Nutrition Grant & Mrs. Hughes, our Food Service Director.

Sebring Reduces Bond to Save Taxpayers Money

The Sebring Local School District has been collecting tax revenue on 4.10 mils, and has decided to reduce the millage to 2.50 mills.  We have finally reached the point where we are receiving more revenue than what we have to pay in principal, interest, and Auditor fees.  Taxpayers should see this reduction on their August tax bill.   This is our way of showing the Sebring Local School's taxpayers that we are doing our part to help them save them money.

2nd Blood Lead Screening Clinic Scheduled

A Blood Lead Screening Clinic is scheduled for area residents under six years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women whose source of water is from the Village of Sebring.  The FREE Blood Lead Screening Clinic will take place on Monday 2-1 from 3:30pm-6:30pm at BL Miller.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guideline states that lead in the water under 15 parts per billon is within the federal allowable level. A rating between 0-4.999 is considered lead free.

School Re-opens

Our water tests results are in: two fountains at the high school are above the EPA recommended limit.  These two fountains have been unplugged, water has been shut off, and they are now unusable.  School is back in session tomorrow.  As a reminder, students are always permitted to bring in their own bottled water and hand sanitizer.  If you have questions or concerns, please call me at my office or email me.

Degrading Twitter Polls are being tweeted across Mahoning County Schools.  This will not be tolerated at the Sebring Local Schools.

Public Notice Meeting

The Sebring Local School District is holding a Public Notice Meeting for community members to discuss the utilization of federal special education funds, the ELL plan, and to discuss the District/School Parent Involvement Plan.  Community members who would like to receive this information and provide input are invited to attend the meeting which will be held at 11:00, on January 22nd, in the B.L. Miller Elementary School conference room.

Many elves were interviewed in Mrs. Guy's & Mrs. D'Ostroph's 2nd grade classes!  We are told that they many and various talents!  Seamstresses, stable helpers, barn keepers, cooks, and more!  You can see more pictures in our photo gallery link to the left.

100th Day in Kindergarten !!!!
Kindergarten celebrated 100 Days of School on Monday, February 23, 2015!  Students shared collections of 100 items that they created at home with their families.  We practiced counting to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's! 
We added 100 toppings to a pizza, 100 bugs to a jar, and ate 100 snack items!

Boogie Boards Arrive at BL Miller!

Mr. Joel Domino, alumni of Sebring Local Schools and President/CEO of Kent Displays arrived to BL Miller Elementary today with is donation of 350 Boogie Boards!  Boogie Boards are interactive "white boards" that use minimal battery usage. They are also LCD tableys fully designed out of plastic, making them durable!

Santa's Elf is Watching !!!!

Mrs. Viscounte shared the holiday story Elf on the Shelf today, Tuesday 12/2/14 with students grades K-3.  The story shares how Santa's secret elf watches over us and reports back on who's been naughty and who's been nice. Our Elf will move around daily, popping up in random places, helping to keep watch of students.  Students found him today in our tree!  Students listended to the story and are working on a name for our Elf.  We will report back soon to let you know our Elf's name !

The Feast - 2nd Grade Celebrates Thanksgiving!

The 2nd Grade Classes of Mrs. Guy and Mrs. Naples out did themselves today in celebration of Thanksgiving.  Students connected their favorite turkey holiday to their literacy and historical learning. Parents were invoted to help, donate, and watch the celebration.  Students began their Thanksgiving Feast with poetry and songs, dressed in pilgrim and indian headdresses.  After the program, students escorted their audience to a grand turkey feast in our cafeteria. The teachers give thanks to all parents for their donations.  Specific appreciation is also offered to Jenni Stickle, Rosemary Lanterman, Beth Harris, Mrs. McGill, Stacey Rinehart and Jayme Poorbaugh for their extra added support. The kids are asking for a HUGE THANK YOU to their teachers - Thank you Mrs. Guy and Mrs. Naples!

Veterans' Day Photos


Veterans were  honored at BL Miller Elementary's Veterans' Day Assembly.  Students sang patriotic songs and read poems.  An incredible video was also shown, explaining why we honor the flag and the history of the Star Spangled Banner. Towards the close of the assembly, the melodies for each branch of our military was played.  Our Veterans, our honored guests, left an entire gymnasium of 300+ students who were completely silent, in honor of the taps played by our very own Mr. Linko, in respect of the service all of our verterans have offered unselfishly.  WE SAY THANK YOU, even though it does not begin to repay the commitment.


Jump Rope For Your Heart


How many know someone who has had a heart attack or stroke? (raise hands) 

What is Jump Rope For Heart? 
It’s an American Heart Association event.  You jump rope  and learn about your heart. Kids are helped by the money you raise! Why is it important? Wecan help saves lives! When we Jump Rope For Heart you can help other kids, kids who have special hearts. Some kids have hearts that don’t work exactly right. These kids need help from doctors and medicines to get better. And they need your help too! When you do Jump Rope For Heart you can raise money to help kids get better. The money you raise will go to the American Heart Association to help pay for new medicines and treatments to be discovered. You’ll also get to have fun and learn about your own heart how it works and how to protect it!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner!  This November, conferences are scheduled for Novemerb 25th.  In a few weeks, conference forms will be coming home. Our goal is to meet with 100% of our parents. Here are the steps:

Grades K-3 - Teachers will send home a conference form.  Please return the form completely filled out. A confirmation notice will be sent home. Grades K-3 conferences may be team or individual.

Grades 4-6 - Teachers will send home a conference letter.  After letter is sent, please call the office (330) 938-2025 to schedule your conferences with our school secretary. Grades 4-6 conferences are typically team conferences, allowing the parent to meet with all content teachers together.

Fire Safety Week at BL MIller

Students at BL Miller spent some time learning about fire safety.  Students were shown what a fireman dressed in his uniform looks like so they know not to be afraid.


 Students also learned about fire and smoke detectors.Make sure to test your detectors yearly, perhaps on a special day like your birthday, to help you remmeber.

I am pleased to announce that our school has been selected to be part of a $25 million dollar coupon give away....and it is FREE. Today, we will send home the "Coupons For Education" booklet with your student. It has coupons with over $100 in savings for your family. Not only does every family get the FREE coupons, but our school is also paid cash to distribute them. 


Celebrate Spirit Week

Next week we will celebrate Sprit Week.  Show your spirit by:

Wearing a Hat on Monday
Crazy Socks on Tuesday
Crazy Hair on Wednesday
Pajamas on Thursday and
Purple and/or Gold on Friday.

The class that is wearing the most purple and/or gold will receive a spirit stick to carry around for the day.




After careful observation during the first week of school, the students' start time is being changed.  The extra 5 minutes will allow for a smoother transition in the mornng so that classes are able to start on time.  This will result in more instructional time for BL Miller's students.

Breakfast: 7:30-7:45

New Start Time: 7:50

Tardy Bell 7:55

Dismissal: 2:27 - Walkers and Bike Riders, 2:30 - Car and 1st Bus Riders

The week of 8-26-13 will be used as a transition period to the new start time.  The new time will be in full effect on 9-4-13.  Students will not be counted tardy the week of 8-26-13 if they are not at school at 7:50.

Back to School

SEBRING students are invited to a BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY
on Friday, August 16th from 6-8pm

Kindergarten - fifth grade are invited to attend a swim party at the Sebring Pool and Sixth - eight grade are invited to attend a dance at the tennis courts.

Admission price is one non-perishable item that will count towards the classroom Christmas basket contest.

Kindergarten - second grade must be accompanied by an adult.  All parents are welcome to stay

Back to School Night / Open House

Annual Title I Parent Meeting
Will be held at BL Miller on August 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Teachers, as well as parents are invited to attend.

When you arrive at the school, please go to the gym for a brief presentation.  You will then have the opportunity to visit your child’s class room.  Please bring your child’s classroom supplies in a plastic bag with your child’s name clearly marked on the bag.

As a reminder, the first day of school is Wednesday August 21st.

The school’s hours are from 8:00 to 2:30.  Breakfast will be served from 7:30-7:50

Homerooms will be posted on BL Miller’s front Door this Friday at 3:30



Destination Imagination

B. L. Miller had serveral teams competing at the regional tournament at YSU on Sat. Mar. 16th. The team coached by Mrs. Jenny Stickle finished first in their problem, .Team members were Katie Blake, Elijah and Noah Frederick, Ryan Stickle, Hope Whaley, and . Receiving a second place trophy were team members Lucas Billingsley,Aebigayle D'Ostroph, Isabella Meir, Lizzy Robinson, Caden Shepherd, Connor Shepherd, ,The team was coached by Mrs. Heidi Shepherd, Mrs. Jeana D'Ostroph, and Mrs. Misty Walker. The Rising Stars members, coached by Yvette and Dan Snyder, were Johnathon Billingsley,Walker Poorbaugh, Carter Shepherd, Lauryn Stickle, Velicity Twaddle, and Jay Zheng.

A sincere thank you and congratulations to all of our coaches and team members for their hard work.



KG Screening

Kindergarten Screening will be April 8th or 9th.  Informational letters were sent home March 5, 2013 with students and will be in the paper.  You will need to call Mrs. Harlan at 330-938-2025 to set up an appointment.  Items you will need to bring are Birth Certificate, Immunization Record,Social Security Card and Custody Papers if they apply.  Please call the school as soon as possible to set up your appointment.
